Napoli coach Walter Mazzarri does not think his side can challenge Juventus and Inter for the Serie A title this term.

The Naples outfit were seen as one of the dark horses for the Scudetto, but their coach has insisted that the title is out of their reach, adding that expectations were set too high at the start of the campaign.

“During the summer, our fans were made to believe that we were among the favourites to win the title, but I don’t really know why to be honest,” Mazzarri told Tuttosport.

“The fans are now disappointed because of the high expectations that were created ahead of the season.

“However, we are doing better than last campaign at this stage in terms of points collected, which shows that the team has a good spirit.”

Napoli sit third in the Serie A table with 23 points from 11 games, trailing leaders Juventus by five points and second-placed Inter by four.
