Former England midfielder Steve McManaman said if Spain win Euro 2012 they must be considered the greatest international team in history.

The Brazil squad of 1970 is widely regarded as the best side of all time but McManaman thinks Spain will usurp them with a win in Poland and Ukraine.

“If Spain win Euro 2012 they will be better than Brazil in 1970 and all of the other (international) teams in history,” the ex-Real Madrid star told ESPN.

McManaman went on to say he hopes that Spain striker Fernando Torres reaches the level he was at back in Euro 2008.

“I hope he returns to his best as he has great quality,” he said.

“You need confidence to score. Against Italy he played well, but did not finish the job. But he recovered well against Ireland.”

Spain take on Croatia in their last match of Group C on Monday.
