Werder Bremen will have to do without the services of lanky defender Per Mertesacker for the next three Bundesliga matches after the German international was sent off during his team’s win over Hoffenheim this past weekend.
The automatic ban for a red card in the Bundesliga is one match, however, after reviewing the incident, the German Football Association decided to increase Mertesacker’s ban to three matches, according to EuroNews.
As a result of the increased ban, the German international will miss games against Stuttgart, Borussia Dortmund and Hannover.
