Anzhi Makhachkala have confirmed the appointment of Rene Meulensteen to the club’s backroom staff.

He links up with fellow Dutchman Guus Hiddink, who has been in charge of the Russian Premier League outfit since February 2012.

The 49-year-old has moved swiftly to secure a new coaching position after it was confirmed that he would leave his role as first-team coach at Manchester United last month.

His departure followed those of assistant manager Mike Phelan and goalkeeping coach Eric Steele earlier in the close-season, as new United manager David Moyes reshapes his backroom team ahead of his first season in charge.

It was confirmed on Monday that Eric Rounds, Chris Woods and Jimmy Lumsden will all leave Everton to reunite with Moyes at Old Trafford.

was a part of Manchester United’s backroom team for 12 years, aside from a brief stint in charge on Brondby in 2006-07.

He joins an Anzhi side that achieved a third-place finish in the Russian Premier League last season and were runners-up to CSKA Moscow in the final of the Russian Cup.
