Serbian Sinisa Mihajlovic was on Monday named the new boss of Serie A strugglers Bologna after they fired Daniele Arrigoni.

Bologna sit 19th in the 20-team division after 10 matches, having lost eight times, including Sunday’s 5-1 humiliation at Cagliari.

With 19 goals conceded they have the joint worst defence in the league alongside rock-bottom Reggina.

It is the 39-year-old Mihajlovic’s first job as a coach, although he spent two years as Roberto Mancini’s assistant at Inter Milan from 2006-08, following his retirement as a player.

Mihajlovic won the European Cup as a player in 1991 with Red Star Belgrade and soon after that earned a lucrative move to Italy.

He spent 14 seasons in Serie A playing for AS Roma, Sampdoria, Lazio and Inter, winning two scudetto titles and four Italian Cups.

He played 63 times, scoring nine goals, for Yugoslavia and Serbia and Montenegro during a 12-year international career.

Arrigoni, 49, had only been at Bologna since June 2007 and becomes the second Serie A coach to be sacked already this season following Stefano Colantuono, replaced by Davide Ballardini at Palermo back in September.
