(GSM) – Chelsea have been dealt a fresh blow as John Obi Mikel could be out for the rest of the season. The Nigerian has suffered a knee injury as Chelsea were beaten by top-four hopefuls Tottenham.

Mikel limped out of the pitch in the 33rd minute at White Hart Lane. Later, scans have revealed that the player has suffered a torn meniscus.

The player will miss Saturday’s Stoke date and will struggle with fitness as he hopes to play against Liverpool and Wigan in what will be the last games of the season.

However, Mikel will not need surgery and would be hoping to feature in the FA Cup final against Portsmouth on May 15.

“It’s a little tear in the knee meniscus,” Mikel told kickoffnigeria.com.

“I won’t play this weekend, and the doctors say it will take about three weeks to heal, although there will be no surgery.”
