Millen ´ready´ to manage Palace

Crystal Palace’s caretaker manager Keith Millen believes he is “ready” to replace Neil Warnock full-time at Selhurst Park.

Millen is in temporary charge at Palace for the third time in a little over a year after Warnock was relieved of his duties following Boxing Day’s 3-1 defeat at home to Southampton.

Having served as assistant to Ian Holloway and Tony Pulis before leading the team after their departures, Millen had previously distanced himself from the top job.

However, he now believes his experiences on an interim basis, coupled with the players’ dealings with him in recent years, makes him a candidate for a job bookmakers have installed Alan Pardew as favourite to take.

“I’m ready for it. The players respect me. I’ve done it enough times,” Millen told BBC Sport.

“It’s about respect. I respect the players and what they’re about and hopefully they respect me for my knowledge and hard work with them.

“You do have to detach yourself from the players as a manager, but also with Premier League players you have to make sure they understand what you want from them.

“They’re big characters at this level and you have to get the best out of them.

“I don’t know how long I’ll be in charge for. I have not been told I’ve got a chance and I haven’t spoken to the chairman [Steve Parish] about myself.”
