Wigan manager Roberto Martinez is hopeful winger Ryo Miyaichi will be available for his side’s trip to Liverpool on Saturday.

The 19-year-old, currently on loan from Arsenal, picked up a groin injury while on international duty with Japan and has not featured for Wigan since October.

But, after Miyaichi made a return to full training on Monday, Martinez believes the youngster could be at full fitness for the meeting with Brendan Rodgers’ side.

“We’ll need to see how he responds to the work this week as the intensity of his preparations go up a level before we decide whether he can make the trip to Liverpool or not,” the Spaniard told the club’s official website.

“But it’s great news that he is back training with the squad. The injury was a big blow to him after a bright start to the season but he remained positive throughout his recovery and is very close to 100 per cent again, which is great news for the team.”

The attacker also spoke of his desire to return to action for Wigan but concedes he will have to remain patient in order to recover fully.

“It’s been a tough few weeks and I’ve been desperate to get involved on the pitch and in training but have had to remain patient,” Miyaichi said.
