The Philadelphia Union earned a hard-fought 3-2 home win over rivals DC United at PPL Park in their MLS clash on Thursday.

Sebastien Le Toux scored two goals inside the first 15 minutes, and Michael Farfan won it for Union in the second half.

Dwayne De Rosario and Andy Najar had earlier brought the visitors back to parity with goals in the opening half-hour, before Farfan’s 57th-minute effort split the teams.

Le Toux’s first strike came on a breakaway after a long ball was misplayed by United defender Ethan White, and the second featured an angled ball from Farfan, which the Frenchman chested down and finished from close range.

The brace meant Le Toux has nine goals from his past eight matches. He had only one goal from 22 matches prior to his hot streak.

De Rosario netted his 14th goal on the season with a header off a corner kick. The goal was his fifth in three matches.

Najar then scored moments after De Rosario to equalise at 2-2.

Following the half-time break, Philadelphia came out just like they had in the first half. This time, Farfan provided the quick goal, finishing with a left-footed shot from the top of the area.

With the victory, Philadelphia move ahead of both Houston and Columbus into second place in the Eastern Conference with 43 points, just one point behind leaders Sporting Kansas City.

They will travel to Los Angeles to take on Chivas USA on Sunday.

DC United remain just one spot and one point behind New York for the final playoff place, ahead of their trip to Columbus Crew on Sunday.
