MLS Preview: Di Vaio´s Impact is telling

Sporting Kansas City and Montreal Impact meet in MLS action on Saturday as two of the league’s top scorers face off.

Italian veteran Marco Di Vaio’s hat-trick against Philadelphia Union sent him joint-top of the scoring charts with nine goals.

His Montreal side are well-placed in the Eastern Conference, two points behind leaders New York Red Bulls but having played four fewer matches.

In Claudio Bieler, Sporting have a forward who has struck six times this campaign, but his form is far different to Di Vaio’s.

The Argentine scored in the US Open Cup on Tuesday but his last league goal came on May 5, when he netted a brace against Chivas USA.

If the form of the goalscorers is anything to go by, Montreal should claim a third-straight win in the clash at Livestrong Sporting Park.

If Red Bulls fail to win at home to Vancouver Whitecaps, Montreal will be top of the conference.

But given the Whitecaps’ struggles this season – they are eighth in the Western Conference – the Red Bulls should be too good.

Western Conference leaders Dallas may be tested when they visit the Colorado Rapids, who are unbeaten in their past five league matches.

Real Salt Lake will be hoping to close the gap on Dallas with a win over San Jose Earthquakes at Rio Tinto Stadium.

Houston Dynamo are winless in three matches but have a chance to break that run against Columbus Crew.

Los Angeles Galaxy will be hoping their 4-0 win over the Seattle Sounders kick-starts their season, and they get a chance to build on that result when they meet the New England Revolution.

Out-of-sorts Toronto will be looking to end a six-game losing run in all competitions when they host Philadelphia Union.

Struggling sides, Chicago Fire and DC United do battle, while Chivas USA and the Seattle Sounders also meet.
