The Seattle Sounders have held on for a 0-0 draw with Real Salt Lake, giving them a chance to secure second in the MLS Western Conference.
In the battle between second and third in the West, second-placed Salt Lake looked in the box seat to claim victory when Zach Scott was sent from the field on the half-hour for a second bookable offence.
A victory in this game would have meant Real Salt Lake extended their lead over the Sounders to six points, but the Seattle side fought back valiantly, hanging on for what may be a vital draw.
The result leaves Real Salt Lake with just one match remaining in the regular season against a Vancouver Whitecaps side that will be desperate for victory as they try to secure their own place in the play-offs.
Seattle, though, still only trail Real Salt Lake by three points, but with a much better goal difference and two matches remaining, the North-West side may have the chance to claim second seeding behind runaway leaders San Jose.
The Sounders do face tough battles against FC Dallas and the LA Galaxy over the final two fixtures.
