MLS wrap: Chivas go out with bang

Chivas USA scored twice in the last four minutes to finish their MLS season with a comeback 2-2 draw away to FC Dallas.

While neither side had a chance to sneak into the MLS playoffs, both were keen to finish their campaigns on a high to build momentum into next season.

FC Dallas thought they had the win sewn up heading into second-half stoppage time as they led 2-0 but Laurent Courtois and Juan Agudelo each scored to snatch a draw.

In a goalless first half, it was clear Sunday’s match was between two teams who would not be playing in the playoffs due to very little goal-mouth action.

After half-time, however, the match picked up with Agudelo forcing a great save out of Dallas goalkeeper Kevin Hartman in the 53rd minute.

The home team took the lead in the 73rd minute when Jackson Goncalves got on the end of David Ferreira’s long pass to knock the ball into the net with his knee.

Ferreira set up Dallas’ second goal as well, releasing fellow Colombian Fabian Castillo down the left, who finished under the charging Chivas goalkeeper Timothy Melia.

Courtois, who had come off the bench, gave Chivas a lifeline in the 90th minute when his left-foot shot looped into the bottom corner and then set-up the equaliser in effectively the last play of the match, passing to Agudelo, who finished from close range.

Los Angeles Galaxy warmed up for the MLS playoffs with a 1-0 win over the Seattle Sounders thanks to a late goal from Mike Magee.

In a tight match full of shots but with few on target, Los Angeles took victory thanks to Magee’s curling effort from outside the box in the 83rd minute.

The Sounders, who will also be involved in the playoffs, had the ball in the back of the net in the 93rd minute but Brad Evans’ goal was disallowed for handball from Fredy Montero.

In the other MLS match, the Columbus Crew defeated Toronto FC 2-1.
