MLS wrap: Dallas prevail in thriller

FC Dallas moved into second place in the MLS Western Conference on Sunday, while champions LA Galaxy drew with 10-man Chivas USA.

Dallas won a thriller 3-2 at home against Houston Dynamo, with a last-gasp strike from Kenny Cooper securing all three points.

The home side looked to be cruising thanks to two goals in three first-half minutes.

George John opened the scoring with a fortunate header from a set-piece 34 minutes in and Andrew Jacobsen was on hand just two minutes later, volleying home from a corner to double the lead.

Substitute Andrew Driver halved the deficit in the 79th minute, and Houston were back on level terms four minutes later when Brad Davis pounced on a rebound from a Cam Weaver cross to slot home the equaliser.

But there was one more twist in the tale, with Cooper’s 90th-minute goal wrapping up the three points for Dallas, although there was a suspicion of hand ball over the way he brought down a superb free-kick from Michel before firing past Tally Hall in the Houston goal.

In Sunday’s other game, defending champions Galaxy were held to a 1-1 draw at home against Chivas USA.

Chivas had to play a large part of the match with 10 men following the dismissal of Mexican defender Joaquin Velasquez in the 40th minute for a hard tackle on Colin Clark.

Galaxy could not make their numerical advantage count until the 83rd minute, when John McBean scored.

But an 89th-minute strike from Carlos Alvarez ensured honours were even at the final whistle.
