Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has signed a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2018.
The Croatia international initially signed a five-year deal when joining Real in 2012, but has extended his contract by a further year.
“Real Madrid C. F. announces the extension of Modric’s contract, linking him to the club for the next four seasons,” the Spanish club posted on their official Twitter account.
Modric, 28, played a key role in the club’s UEFA Champions League success last term, achieved when they beat city rivals Atletico Madrid after extra time.
The former Dinamo Zagreb man also played 34 of the side’s 38 La Liga fixtures last season.
Real paid a reported fee of £33.2million to Tottenham for Modric, ending their protracted chase of the player.
