Arsenal left-back Nacho Monreal believes Malaga star Isco has agreed to join Real Madrid ahead of Manchester City.
The 21-year-old played a central role in Spain’s success at the UEFA Under-21 European Championships earlier this month after standing out for Malaga last season, helping his side finish seventh in La Liga and reach the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.
This form has led to heavy speculation that the playmaker is on his way to join either Real Madrid or Manchester City, and his international colleague Monreal has indicated that Isco has opted to move to the Bernabeu.
Monreal, who played alongside the midfielder at Malaga before his switch to the Emirates Stadium, told Marca: “Isco has succeeded wherever he has gone. I believe he has already signed for Real Madrid and I’m sure he’ll do very well because he is a great player.
“He may cost them (a lot of money), but together they will have opportunities and they will seize them.”
One player Isco looks unlikely to play alongside at Real next season is Gonzalo Higuain, with the Argentina international reportedly close to joining Monreal at Arsenal.
And the left-back admitted he would be delighted to welcome Higuain to the club.
“I would love it,” he added. “I always loved how he played for Real Madrid. He is a goalscorer and would be good reinforcement.”
