Fiorentina have confirmed on their official website that they have appointed Vincenzo Montella as their new head coach.

The 37-year-old has signed a contract with the Viola lasting until the summer of 2014, with an option for one additional season.

The Tuscans were in the market for a new trainer due to the departure of Delio Rossi in the closing stages of the 2011-12 campaign after an infamous scrap with Adem Ljajic, and they have now found their man in the former Roma striker.

Montella started his coaching career as caretaker boss at Roma in February 2011, before joining Catania ahead of the 2011-12 season. He steered the Sicilians to 11th spot in the table this term.

The former Italy international was previously believed to be on his way back to Stadio Olimpico, but his club refused to allow Montella to return to the Giallorossi.

Nevertheless, they confirmed last week that Montella would be leaving the club this summer after all.

Fiorentina will formally present Montella on Monday at a press conference.
