Ecuador star Jefferson Montero has confirmed that he will join Spanish side Villarreal this summer.
The 19-year-old was also close to joining Real Madrid but the midfielder has confirmed that he has agreed a five-year deal with Villarreal.
“Now that Villarreal has made an official announcement I can also talk about my transfer,” said Montero on Gamavision.
“I have finally been transferred to Villarreal because the negotiations with Real Madrid failed.
“For what I have been told I will be signing a five-year contract and I will be joining my new team in July.
He added: “This is a very important step in my career. I had never imagined that at my age I was going to have the chance to be transferred to European football.
“I will have to take it calmly because I am going to an important team that plays every year important championships.
“I hope to get adapted as soon as possible, and personally I think that if I am able to repeat what I do in my country I will have success.
“I also know that I will have to work very hard because Villarreal has very good players, of a great quality.”
