Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti insists the club are not forcing midfielder Wesley Sneijder into signing a new deal at San Siro.

The 28-year-old earns six million euros per season and Inter have made it clear they want to reduce his wages.

The club have even gone as far as saying they will not pick the Netherlands international until he responds to the terms on offer, a proposal Sneijder has so far shown no intention of agreeing to.

“Our rapport is not frosty as far as I am concerned,” Moratti told the club’s website.

“There isn’t a clear contrast in positions, as we are trying to find a solution that suits both parties.

“We do not want to force anything on anyone. It is a situation that will be broken down only by common sense.”

Reports in Italy have suggested the club would be willing to release the former Real Madrid midfielder on a free transfer in a bid to save on wages.

It is a policy they have used already this year by enforcing the departures of other high earners Julio Cesar and Lucio.
