Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has been given a one-match stadium ban and a £40,000 fine by the Football Association (FA) after admitting to a charge of misconduct during his team’s 2-1 defeat to West Ham.

Mourinho’s charge related to his “language and/or behaviour towards match officials in or around the dressing room area during half-time of the game” at Upton Park on October 24, when the Portuguese was sent to the stands for the second half.

The suspension takes effect immediately, meaning Mourinho will not be allowed to attend Saturday’s trip to face Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium, where Chelsea will aim to recover from suffering a sixth defeat in 11 Premier League this season outings against Liverpool last weekend.

Chelsea coach Silvino Louro denied an FA charge of misconduct , also in relation to the West Ham loss, and the authorities have opted to withdraw the charge.

An FA statement read: “Following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing today, Jose Mourinho has been given a one-match stadium suspension with immediate effect and fined £40,000.

“The Chelsea manager admitted an FA charge of misconduct regarding his language and/or behaviour towards the match officials in or around the dressing room area during half-time of the game against West Ham United on 24 October 2015.

“With regard to Chelsea coach Silvino Louro, who denied an FA misconduct charge in relation to the same game, The FA, having considered further representation, withdrew the formal charge of improper conduct but reminded him of his responsibilities.”

Nemanja Matic’s red card before half-time against West Ham sparked an angry reaction from Mourinho and Louro and it is not the first time the under-pressure manager has come into conflict with the FA during a troubled season.

He remains subject to a s

uspended stadium ban following comments made about the match officials after the 3-1 loss to Southampton at Stamford Bridge last month.

That punishment related to a post-match television interview where he “alleged and/or implied bias” on the part of the officials, meaning the threat of a further ban remains after the Stoke game.

In his pre-match news conference before the Liverpool loss, Mourinho was apparently critical of the FA’s punishment of him, declaring that he would not give the media “good and funny headlines” due to a “lack of respect”.

In September, the FA decided Mourinho should face no action over complaints that he allegedly used discriminatory language to former Chelsea club doctor Eva Carneiro during the 2-2 draw against Swansea City on August 8.

Carneiro subsequently left the club and is reported to be pursuing legal action against Chelsea and Mourinho, although the club has denied knowledge of receiving any legal paperwork relating to the case.
