Former Sunderland manager David Moyes has been fined by the Football Association (FA) for comments he made to a reporter in March.

Following a goalless draw with Burnley, Moyes was filmed telling the BBC’s Vicki Sparks after an interview: “It was getting a wee bit naughty at the end there so just watch yourself. You still might get a slap even though you’re a woman. Careful the next time you come in.”

Moyes’ subsequent apology to both the BBC and Sparks was accepted but he was charged by the FA in April.

And he has now been hit with a £30,000 fine by English football’s governing body.

Moyes resigned at the end of the season following Sunderland’s relegation from the Premier League.

However, the ex-Everton, Manchester United and Real Sociedad boss has been talked up as a potential replacement for Scotland manager Gordon Strachan, whose position is under threat with his side fourth in their World Cup qualifying group.
