Moyes fumes over disallowed goal

David Moyes feels Everton should have claimed victory in their derby with Liverpool after Sylvain Distin had a second-half header disallowed.

Moyes was left frustrated after referee Michael Oliver chalked off Distin’s far-post effort, adjudging that Victor Anichebe had committed a foul in the build-up.

However, the Scot believes the decision was extremely harsh and was quick to voice his annoyance as his side were denied a first win at Anfield since 1999.
He told Sky Sports: “It was a goal. The goalkeeper runs into our player so the goal should stand.

“If we run into the goalkeeper then give a foul for that, but he ran into us, so it was a goal. The referee said he gave the foul on Victor Anichebe for impeding the goalkeeper.”

Aside from that contentious decision, Moyes was relatively pleased with the performance Everton produced and called for his side to push on and continue to fight for a place in Europe next term.

He added: “I thought we did what we had to do. We didn’t make as many chances as we would have liked.

“We found it hard to get a lot going for us, things weren’t going our way. That’s what happens when you come to Anfield, you very rarely get good decisions.

“We are still in there. We picked up a point, we’ve had a really difficult run-in and we will keep pushing.”

Everton sit sixth in the Premier League table following the draw with Liverpool and are five points shy of fifth-placed Tottenham.
