David Moyes has praised Steven Pienaar for his match-winning performance in Everton’s 1-0 victory over Fulham on Saturday.

The South African scored the only goal of the game and was influential throughout as the Merseyside club kept their slim hopes of Champions League qualification alive.

The Scot was happy with the eye-catching manner of the winning goal, as well as his side’s general play throughout the game.

“Since his injury he’s [Pienaar] not been at his best but I thought he played very well today,” Moyes said.

“He knitted us together a little bit. He scored a good goal as well. It will do him the world of good.

“It was a terrific footballing goal, we played some good football at times, we didn’t finish the moves off but on this occasion we did and it was all nice intricate play and a good finish.”

Moyes challenged his side to keep winning in their run-in and give themselves the best possible opportunity of sneaking a top-four spot.

“All we can do is try and win our games,” he added.

“We’ve beaten last season’s total with those points today and that in itself shows a sign of progress and we’ll try and keep it together until the end of the season.

“If we do get into Europe we’ll have earned it because the teams above us are all really good in their own right.

“The important thing is to keep trying to win the next game, if other teams keep winning theirs, there’s not an awful lot we can do but if we win ours then that’s a big thing.”
