Moyes: Redknapp agreed not to play Saha

David Moyes has revealed that he and Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp have a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ that Louis Saha will not play on Saturday.

The Spurs striker, 33, moved to White Hart Lane from Goodison Park on transfer deadline day in January on a one-and-a-half-year deal.

Although Redknapp is allowed to pick the French forward – unlike when a player is loaned to another club – Everton manager Moyes believes that the Spurs coach will live up to his word for this weekend’s game.

“I think I have an agreement with Harry that he doesn’t play,” the Scot said on Friday.

“But if he plays it is not a problem. Harry told me if he is short of players he will play but if he is not he might not use him.”

The former Manchester United striker moved to Everton in 2008 and spent three-and-a-half years on Merseyside, scoring 35 goals in 115 appearances.

And Moyes is well aware of the threat Saha poses should he take the field on Saturday.

“He was arguably the best player I have ever worked with, the best talent I have ever had,” he said.

“Wayne (Rooney) would come close, as would Thomas Gravesen, but Saha was right up there; great ability and some of the things he could do were magnificent.”

“We enjoyed Louis and I think the time was right for him and for Everton and gave him a chance to move on.”
