Everton manager David Moyes is delighted at Leon Osman’s inclusion in the England squad to face San Marino and Montenegro.

The 31-year-old has never appeared for his country in a competitive competition, only making his international debut in England’s November friendly against Sweden.

Moyes feels Osman has been the key to his side’s success in the English Premier League this campaign, noting the sizable burden he has carried.

“I am delighted for him because he has been one of the players who has carried us for a lot of the season, he really has,” the Scot told the club’s website.

“Yes, at times he has dipped under his best, like all players will do, but so far this season he has been very good.”

The 49-year-old praised Osman’s attitude, the midfielder having assumed a wide range of roles for Everton over the course of the campaign.

“His performances have been excellent and he really has carried us at times,” Moyes said.

“Whatever we’ve asked him to do. We’ve asked him to do different jobs at times. He’s done it, he’s come up with some important goals and he’s had his best season at Everton for me.

“He’s been exceptional and I’m delighted he’s been given another call-up by England.”
