MTK Budapest have been crowned Hungarian champions for the 23rd time after a convincing 3-0 victory at REAC Budapest on Monday.

As the only remaining competitors for the Borsodi Liga title, Debrecen VSC drew their match at SE Paks on Friday, MTK had the chance of securing the championship today.

With one match to go, MTK have a two-points advantage over Debrecen. In their next match however, they will be given a 3-0 default victory as opponents FC Sopron had been expelled from the league earlier this season.

MTK’s championship comes after three years that were dominated by Debrecen.

The Budapest outfit won their last domestic league title in the 2002-03 season.
