According to reports in Italy, and by that I mean Goal.com, Fiorentina’s star striker, Adrian Mutu, may be on the verge of leaving the club after he has asked for an increase in wages. The Viola might not be happy that Mutu would leave the club, but they have found a ready-made replacement in Lukas Podolski.
The German striker, who has had an impressive debut at Euro 2008, has not impressed in his two years with Bayern Munich. And Fiorentina think that he would be the replacement for Mutu should his demands force him out of the club. The Viola is not at odds with the German club following the transaction of Luca Toni last summer, and a potential transfer is likely to flow smoothly.
As for Mutu, his future is not entirely in the dark. It is known that Schalke are interested in bringing him to Germany, but the possibility of him staying with Fiorentina is not entirely excluded. In any case nothing is likely to be solved until Romania are knocked out of the European Championships given that Mutu is on international duty.
