Manchester United have opened talks with winger Nani as they look to tie him down to a four-year contract, according to a report.
Despite having two years yet to run on his current contract, the new deal would reportedly see Nani’s basic wage rise to a reported 130,000 pounds a week, The Sun have reported.
The increase would see him join the same bracket as Old Trafford’s highest earners and cement his place as one of Sir Alex Ferguson’s key men.
The winger, 24, has been in inspired form this season and Ferguson seems confident that the Portugal international can surpass his former team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo’s achievements and become a United legend.
Despite an unconvincing start to life in England, the 18-million-pound signing from Sporting Lisbon has improved rapidly since 2007, and was last year voted player’s player of the year at United.
United also appear ready to spend further on their squad after reports recorded a profit of 175m pounds over the past six months.
