Veteran centre-back Ryan Nelsen has confirmed he will join Queens Park Rangers on a one-year deal after he passed a medical.

Manager Mark Hughes brought Nelsen to the Premier League from MLS outfit DC United seven years ago when he was in charge of Blackburn Rovers, and Nelsen has admitted he could not turn down the chance to link up with his former boss.

He told Fairfax: “That was a big factor. I know Mark and his staff really well, and they all really helped me when I was first over here in England, so it’s nice to go full circle towards the end of my career.

“I owe him pretty much everything. He gave me my chance (at Blackburn in 2005).”

The 34-year-old veteran arrived at Tottenham on a short-term deal in January after being released by Blackburn, and made eight appearances for the north London side.

And despite his newest London club narrowly avoiding relegation, Nelsen said he can make a contribution to QPR’s plans.

He added: “They’ve got a lot of ambition – it seems like it’s going to be a good fit. Hopefully, I can still help them out.”
