Gary Neville has revealed that Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson is in contention for an England call-up after a promising start to the season.

After a shaky start to his Gunners career, the full-back has found his feet this campaign, playing in all but one of his side’s Premier League games as he continues to deputise for the injured Bacary Sagna.

“Carl Jenkinson has improved immeasurably over the last 12 months,” the England coach told talkSPORT.

“It was very difficult for him at the start of his Arsenal career last year because of the changes in the defence, there was never a settled defence for him to perform in.

“But you look at the way he’s performing now and he’s been magnificent for Arsenal in the early stages of the season.

“England have good options at right-back with Glen Johnson and Kyle Walker, and others as well, but he’s definitely someone who is being watched continuously; he’s definitely catching the eye.”

Jenkinson is also eligible to play for Finland through his mother but, having only represented the Nordic nation at Under-21 level, the left-back is still in contention for the Three Lions.
