Cristian Tello has paid tribute to Pep Guardiola after netting his first goal for Barcelona in Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Real Sociedad.
The 20-year-old forward opened the scoring at Camp Nou and was grateful to his boss for entrusting him with a starting role.
“I have to thank the manager for the confidence that he gives me,” Tello told the Barcelona website.
“I’m very happy.”
Tello was particularly pleased that Barcelona’s win ensured that they remain seven points behind La Liga leaders Real Madrid, who defeated Getafe 1-0 earlier in the evening, and insisted that the Catalans can still retain their title.
“We worked hard to win this match because we needed (the win),” he said.
“There’s a lot of La Liga left and a lot of points (still in play). We have to fight for the lague until the end.”
“We had a hard time (against Sociedad) but we managed to win the game, it was necessary. Real Madrid can lose and we must be ready (when they do).”
Barcelona face Valencia in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday before returning to La Liga action against Osasuna next weekend.
