According to the Daily Mail, Dick Advocaat insists that the record signing of Portugal international midfielder Danni doesn’t necessarily mean that Andrei Arshavin is on the verge of leaving the club.
The UEFA Cup champions have paid a club record£24 million to prise 25-year old Danni away from their rivals Dinamo Moscow.
His acquisition prompted rumours that Zenit will now be prepared to sell Arshavin for a lower price, with Tottenham being the reported frontrunner.
Arshavin’s price tag had deterred clubs from signing him, but Advocaat is still unsure as to whether the Russia international will be leaving.
When quizzed about if Danni’s signing would allow Arshavin to go, Advocaat told reporters: ‘No, because Andrei is still with Zenit, and I am still not sure if he is going away.’
Adovcaat is expecting big things from the Venezuelan-born Danni, who made his international debut for Portugal last week.
He added: ‘We’ve been interested in Danny for a while now.
‘I consider him the best midfielder in the Russian league and he can become a very useful member of our team. I see Danny as an attacking midfielder or winger.’
