Newcastle and Middlesbrough were relegated from the English Premier League on Sunday after both clubs lost their final matches of the season.

The two clubs join West Brom, whose fate had already been sealed, in the Championship next season.

Newcastle were beaten 1-0 at Aston Villa while Middlesbrough went down to a 2-1 defeat at West Ham.

The results meant that Sunderland and Hull, who both could have been relegated on the final day, survive in the top flight, despite losing their final matches to, respectively, Chelsea and Manchester United.
