The agent of Ajax defensive midfielder Vurnon Anita has revealed Newcastle United have made an offer for the 23-year-old.
Anita has become a key player in Frank de Boer’s side last season, making 33 appearances en route to the Eredivisie title in 2011/12, with his ability to play at full-back also proving useful.
Harry Lulofs, the player’s representative, has now fuelled a move to England, claiming Newcastle are keen to land the Netherlands international.
Lulofs also added that Norwich City had expressed an interest before manager Paul Lambert left for Aston Villa.
“Ajax are very satisfied with the guy (Anita) and want to keep him, but Newcastle have been watching him for a long time and really want to sign him,” he told The People.
“This is the first offer Ajax have received for Vurnon and we’ll soon see how they react.
“The only other Premier League club to get in touch was Norwich. Paul Lambert called me to ask about him.
“Now he has moved to Aston Villa so maybe they will be in touch. I don’t know.”
