Newcastle keen to sign goalkeeper on emergency loan

Newcastle United will appeal to the Premier League to bring in a goalkeeper on emergency loan ahead of this weekend’s Tyne-Wear derby, according to the Mail Online.

Alan Pardew has played his third choice keeper Jak Alnwick in the last three matches, but he injured his shoulder in last night’s 4-0 Capital One Cup quarter final defeat at Tottenham Hotspur leaving seventeen-year-old Freddie Woodman as the only man available for Sunday’s match against fierce rivals Sunderland.

Tim Krul and Rob Elliot are both set to remain on the side-lines until mid-January, so Pardew will look to bring in cover, with rules allowing such a signing to be made if squads have only one fit professional goalkeeper.

Having recently strung together a run of six consecutive victories, Newcastle have won just one of their last five games in all competitions, though they can be backed at 1/1 to take all three points on Sunday.
