Newcastle lead the race to sign Slimani

Islam Slimani has become somewhat of a forgotten man at Leicester, not even making the bench for the Foxes penalty shootout defeat to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup last night. Thankfully for the striker Newcastle United are keen on acquiring his services, according to the Leicester Mercury, and rescuing him from his current game time nightmare.

The Algerian international has featured nine times this season, though he has started just once, and he is yet to find the back of the net. In the previous campaign Slimani did bag seven goals and four assists, but he has failed to impress in a Leicester shirt thus far.

Newcastle meanwhile have been struggling for goals, having scored just 16 times in 18 league games this season, and have consequently dropped into the bottom three.

Though they are just one point from safety, this is a turbulent time for the Magpies due to the change of ownership, and they will need to acquire a prolific goal scorer in January in order to ensure survival.
