Newcastle looking to offload Aleksandar Mitrovic in January

Serbia striker Aleksandar Mitrovic is once again being linked with Newcastle United exit.

The 23-year-old forward has dropped to third place in the pecking order behind Joselu as the first-choice striker and last-season’s star Dwight Gayle who remains the back-up option for Magpies.

Aleksandar Mitrovic has been limited to only three appearances in all competitions for Rafa Benitez’s squad, making a single start in the EFL Cup against Nottingham Forest.

The British media report today that Newcastle will try to offload the former Anderlecht forward after failing to get him off their books during summer.

A couple of Italian sides were thought to be in the running for Mitrovic’s signature whereas the latest links see the Serbian get connected to a possible move to Southampton where he would be united with his Serbia teammate Dusan Tadic.

Aleksandar Mitrovic joined Newcastle in June 2015 and is contracted to the Toon until the summer of 2020.
