AC Milan’s M’Baye Niang wants his team to target a second-place finish in Serie A after their 3-0 thumping of Lazio.
Two goals from Giampaolo Pazzini and another from Kevin-Prince Boateng allowed Milan to cruise to victory at San Siro on Saturday and move into third at the expense of their opponents.
Speaking after the game, Niang stressed his side now need to focus on the next milestone – securing second place.
“Now we have to insist on overcoming Napoli,” the 18-year-old forward told Tuttosport.
“Until the game against Lazio, our goal was third place but now we must continue to reach the second spot.”
Niang has yet to score his first Serie A goal, although he did manage to find the net against Reggina in the Coppa Italia in December, but remains optimistic despite striking the woodwork against Lazio.
“We are all happy because we played a great game,” the France Under-21 international added.
“Too bad that the crossbar (stopped me from scoring) – I hope that next time around my shot ends up in the net.”
Milan sit third in the table after their win with 48 points from 27 games, five behind second-placed Napoli.
