Notts County appoint Derry as player manager

League One side Notts County have appointed Shaun Derry as player-coach, the Mail Online understands.

The midfielder, who began his career with the Magpies, leaves Queens Park Rangers to join up with his former club, who have been without a manager since Chris Kiwomya left by mutual consent last month.

In an eighteen year playing career so far the 35 year old, who was born in Nottingham, has played for no less than eight league clubs, including a brief spell over the River Trent at Forest during the 2004/05 campaign.

He is joined by former Carlisle United boss Greg Abbott, who became the first managerial casualty of the season on September 9th after almost five years at Brunton Park.

The pair will take charge with immediate effect, preparing the team for this weekend’s FA Cup first round clash at Hartlepool United, where County can be backed at a price of 23/10 to win the game.
