Tahiti and New Caledonia both made bright starts to the second round of OFC 2014 World Cup qualifying with strong wins on Friday.
Lorenzo Tehau netted four goals as Tahiti thrashed Samoa 10-1 in their Group A clash at Lawson Tama Stadium in Honiara.
Jonathan and Alvin Tehau each netted a brace, while Teaonui Tehau also got his name on the scoresheet as the family shared nine goals between them.
Steevy Chong Hue made it 6-0 on the hour-mark before Samoa scored a consolation through Silao Malo 10 minutes later.
But Tahiti finished strongly, scoring four times in the final 12 minutes to cap off an emphatic win.
In the other Group A clash, New Caledonia brushed aside Vanuatu 5-2 thanks to Bertrand Kai’s hat-trick.
Vanuatu were level after 61 minutes as Robert Tasso and Jean Naprapol cancelled out Kai’s brace.
But Georges Gope-Fenepej restored New Caledonia’s advantage before Kai and Roy Kayara ended any chance of a Vanuatu comeback.
The second round of World Cup qualifying also acts as the group stages of the OFC Nations Cup.
