Olympiacos striker Alan Pulido has reportedly been kidnapped in Mexico, with officials confirming an operation is under way to determine his whereabouts.

The Mexico international is said to have been intercepted by a group of attackers after leaving a party in the early hours of Sunday morning. Pulido’s girlfriend is thought to have escaped the incident unharmed.

Mediotiempo quotes Pulido’s brother Armando, also a footballer, as confirming the kidnapping, while a local government Twitter account revealed a search was ongoing.

“A special operation to determine the whereabouts of Alan Pulido, who was deprived of his freedom last night at the Carretera Interejidal in Ciudad Victoria, remains active,” posted Grupo de Coordinacion Tamaulipas.

Pulido’s former club Tigres tweeted its “solidarity” with the Pulido family during a “difficult situation”, while fellow Mexico forward Javier Hernandez also showed his support via the social network.
