(GSM) – Panathinaikos has sacked Henk ten Cate. Club president Nicolas Pateras ended the cooperation with the Dutch coach.

“It was a honor to work for Panathinaikos,” Ten Cate said on the club’s official website. “I respect the fact that some people weren’t happy with the general image I created at the club, but me and my colleagues have done everything to book success with this club. The president’s decision won’t harm my relationship with the club.”

Ten Cate was in his second season with Panathinaikos. Last season he reached the qualification rounds of the Champions League after play-offs. In the last qualifying round they were defeated by Atletico Madrid. Panathinaikos lie second in the Greek competition, just one point behind league leaders Olympiakos Piraeus.
