Portuguese newspaper Record has learned that Panathinaikos are hoping to sign Croatian defender Danijel Pranjic from Sporting Lisbon.

The Greek giants are looking to end a three-year wait for the league title and have already signed the likes of Emir Bajrami, David Mendes da Silva and Marcus Berg.

According to Record, they are now showing interest in Danijel Pranjic, hoping to sign the Croatian defender on a season-long loan.

Sporting Lisbon are prepared to let the player leave Estadio Jose Alvalade, but only if they receive compensation for his loan deal.

At the moment, the two sides are still far from reaching an agreement despite the player striking personal terms with Panathinaikos.

Danijel Pranjic joined the Lions on a free transfer last summer, and went on to make nine league appearances before moving to Celta Vigo on loan.

The 31-year-old featured in 10 La Liga matches for the Sky Blues, but doesn’t seem to have done enough to earn a permanent deal.
