Former Marseille striker Jean-Pierre Papin said Andre-Pierre Gignac’s return to form and fitness makes him like a new signing.
The France international only managed to score one goal last term for the Ligue 1 outfit, in a season blighted by a string of injuries.
The 26-year-old appears to have put those troubles behind him in the early part of this campaign for Marseille, having netted twice in Europa League qualifying, before scoring three goals in four Ligue 1 games.
“I said before Le Championnat that he would be Marseille’s best recruit, and this is the case,” Papin – the 1991 European Footballer of the Year – told La Provence.
“After a goal or a good game confidence comes back. When you have qualities, you do not lose it all overnight.”
Marseille currently sit on top of Ligue 1 with four wins from as many matches, and face Nancy after the international break.
