Park unfazed by losing QPR captaincy

QPR midfielder Ji-Sung Park insists that he is unconcerned after being stripped of the captaincy.

The experienced South Korean returned to the starting line-up for the FA Cup third-round tie against West Brom after recovering from injury, but the skipper’s armband remained with Clint Hill.

Park was awarded the captaincy by former manager Mark Hughes in the summer, but the honour has since been passed between Hill and Ryan Nelsen since the arrival of Harry Redknapp as manager.

“It’s the manager’s decision and I’m very happy to go along with that,” Park said.

“I respect the manager’s decision and I don’t really care about that.

“I am an experienced player so I can help the team with or without the armband. It doesn’t matter.”

Park made his comeback from a troublesome knee injury that prevented him from featuring for the club since Redknapp’s appointment.

The injury had kept the 31-year-old out for over 10 weeks but Park is adamant that a return to full fitness is not far off.

“It was the first game for me,” he said. “Chelsea was only five minutes so this is my first game back from injury.

“The 90 minutes will help me and it won’t take long. In a few days and a couple of games I can be 100 percent.”
