Paris Saint-Germain new signing Javier Pastore believes the quality of Ligue 1 will only continue to get better.

The Argentine midfielder cost PSG just over 36 million pounds, making the transfer a record-high in French football.

He is one of several new signings for the Qatar Investment Authority-owned club, joining Mohamed Sissoko (Juventus), Salvatore Sirigu, Jeremy Menez (both Roma) and Kevin Gameiro (Lorient), Blaise Matuidi (Saint-Etienne) in the capital.

Pastore was unveiled to the fans of his new club before their 1-0 home loss to Lorient on Sunday, and said on Monday that he believed more signings will improve the league.

“I think the French league is not at the same level as Spain, Italy or England but I think they play great football in Ligue 1,” Pastore said.

“Besides that, they are importing players from the East and because of that, their squads are improving.”

“This will improve the quality of the championship in future.”

Pastore is likely to make his PSG debut when his new side travel to Stade Rennes on Saturday.
