Pellegrini: Man City could make January signings

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has revealed the club could bring in new players when the transfer window re-opens in January.

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has revealed the club could bring in new players when the transfer window re-opens in January.

At the moment, Chelsea (9-3-0) running away with the English Premier League title, and the Blues’ stunning form could force City into seeking reinforcements in the New Year.

City are still alive in the UEFA Champions League, thanks to their improbable win over Bayern Munich on Tuesday. That said, Pellegrini’s side need to win in Rome next month in order to book their place in the Round of 16.

“It’s a thing that maybe we will talk in a few weeks’ more,” said Pellegrini. “But not in this moment. We are just focused on the Premier League, focused on the game in Rome.

“If we continue in the Champions League we will have a lot of things to think about, but you must remember we have restrictions this year – restrictions that we cannot bring in important players because we must leave them out of the squad for the Champions League.

“So we will see but I repeat that at this moment it is not the first priority to talk about. We are not thinking about that because I think it’s important to trust in the squad that we have.”

Bent reveals Villa frustration

Aston Villa striker Darren Bent, who is currently on loan at Sky Bet Championship side Brighton, has revealed why he left Birmingham for East Sussex.

Prior to joining Brighton, Bent, who joined Villa for an initial fee of £18 million in January 2011, did not even start one Premier League game for Villa this season.

Despite Villa’s struggles in front of goal, he was limited to just seven substitute appearances under Paul Lambert this term.

“In Paul’s first season it was difficult but this last season has been a bit more difficult because pre-season went well, he brought me back in but even though the team struggled to score goals and win matches I still wasn’t given an opportunity to play,” Bent told Sky Sports News HQ.

“There are only so many slaps in the face you can take before you have to go and look elsewhere.”

Regarding the move, Bent added: “It happened pretty quickly, I have been on at the manager about getting out for a bit and playing some games,” said the England international.

“I heard Brighton were interested and it’s been a bit hectic but I’m glad to be here.

“It’s just about getting back to playing games again, it’s been far too long not playing football and it’s a chance to play some games and get some sharpness back.”
