Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola was left frustrated by the behaviour of Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho during their Spanish Supercup victory.
The Catalan club claimed their third consecutive Supercopa success on Wednesday after a 3-2 result at Camp Nou sealed a 5-4 aggregate victory in a feisty affair against Real.
A late red card to Marcelo, following a dangerous foul on Barcelona’s new signing Cesc Fabregas, resulted in a touchline brawl between the coaching staff of both clubs.
During the ruckus, Mourinho appeared to tug the ear Guardiola’s assistant, Tito Vilanova, before puckering his lips at the coach in the aftermath.
On the altercation between the two men, Guardiola said: “The images speak for themselves. There are things that should not happen in football (and this is one).”
“This could end badly if unchecked. I can do something with my players, and make sure that they behave their best, but I do not give lessons to anyone.”
Responding to Mourinho’s claim that he did not know who he was quarreling with, Guardiola commented: “He has to know who he is. I know who Karanka (Mourinho’s assistant, Aitor) is. Tito is very important to our team.”
Barcelona players took their coach’s thoughts a step further, with Xavi Hernandez labelling Real’s tactics as ‘pathetic’ and ‘shameful for football in general,’ while Gerard Pique accused Mourinho of ‘destroying Spanish football.’
In the game itself, a late Lionel Messi goal ensured that Barcelona defeated their old adversary to win a 10th Supercup crown.
