Manchester City are hot on the trail of Real Madrid defender Pepe, Spanish daily Marca has revealed.

With Malaga boss Manuel Pellegrini almost certain to take over the reigns at Etihad, he is already thinking about potential summer signings.

According to Marca, the Chilean boss is hoping to sign Real Madrid castaway Pepe in the summer transfer window.

Pellegrini knows the Portugal international well from his time at the Santiago Bernabeu and he is eager to add him to his squad at Etihad seeing as how both Joleon Lescott and Kolo Toure are set to leave.

Pepe is hoping to leave los Blancos at the end of the season after he was treated poorly by Jose Mourinho, but it remains to be seen whether new Real Madrid boss will be prepared to let him go.

The Portuguese defender would face a stiff competition for a starting place at Etihad with Vincent Kompany and Matija Nastasic having established an excellent partnership.

Juve offer Lichtsteiner plus cash for Higuain

Juventus have submitted a fresh proposal for Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain, according to Spanish newspaper AS.

The Bianconeri recently confirmed their interest in the Argentine striker and they seem to have stepped up their efforts to sign the highly rated footballer.

AS has suggested that the Bianconeri are prepared to offer Stephan Lichtsteiner as part of the deal in order to lower the €25 million asking price.

It appears that Higuain has set his sights on leaving Santiago Bernabeu and he probably wouldn’t mind joining the Serie A champions.

The 25-year-old has failed to nail down a regular starting berth in Madrid, and has been playing second fiddle to Karim Benzema.

Nevertheless, he has managed 16 goals in 42 competitive appearances for los Blancos this season.

Nice close in on Monaco hotshot

Monaco youngster Nampalys Mendy has agreed a Bosman deal with Ligue 1 side Nice, L’Equipe has revealed.

The talented footballer’s contract at Stade Louis II is set to expire at the end of the campaign and he seems to have already signed a pre-contract agreement with les Aiglons.

Monaco officials are, nonetheless, still hoping they will manage to persuade the 20-year-old to extend his stay at the club.

Nampalys Mendy came through the youth ranks at Monaco and he made 14 appearances during team’s final season in the top flight.

He has been virtually ever present this season, featuring in 31 Ligue 2 matches and helping his side secure the second division title.

However, with a number of high-profile players set to arrive at Stade Louis II in the summer, he is aware he needs to leave in search of first team football.
