Real Madrid defender Pepe has been forced out of his side’s clash against Getafe after being concussed against Valencia.

The Portugal star was involved in a clash of heads with club captain Iker Casillas as Mauricio Pellegrino’s side took a corner in their La Liga opener last weekend and left the pitch soon after.

He was subsequently made to miss Thursday’s 3-2 loss to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup first leg through concussion, but has since begun full training and was widely expected to be fit in time for the Madrid derby.

Raul Albiol started in his place against the Catalans, and the Spain international, along with Raphael Varane, will compete for a place in Jose Mourinho’s starting line-up at the Alfonso Perez.

Meanwhile, there is no place in the squad for duo Ricardo Carvalho or Kaka, who are widely expected to leave the Santiago Bernabeu before the transfer window closes on Friday.
