Pepe unhappy about penalty decision in 1-1 draw against Milan

Real Madrid defender Pepe is taken aback by the referees decision to award a penalty against him for handball in Real Madrid’s draw against Milan at San Siro on Tuesday evening.

The Portugal international fails to understand how the referee gave the hosts a spot-kick and believes his side could have bagged all three points if not for this penalty strike.

Karim Benzema gave Real the lead in the 29th minute but 10 min before the break Pepe was harshly adjudged to have handled a cross from Gianluca Zambrotta and Ronaldinho stepped up to blast the penalty into the roof of the net.

“The penalty was strange. It is hard to see that the ball actually hit my back,” says Pepe, quotes Madrid’s official website.

Pepe was unhappy that Los Merengues were unable to avenge their reverse against Milan two weeks ago and felt that they had done enough to take home all three points.

“We came here to win and I believed we played a great match and therefore deserved more,” he continued.

“We played a high quality game, but the penalty affected the match. We are sad because we deserved much more.”

  1. I think the referee made a mistake by awarding that penalty, because it wasn’t an intentional handball. The referee shouldn’t have awarded the penalty. Anyway, Madrid were up for it.
